We’re Doomed

Two things jump out at you in the above graphic — taken from BookBusiness and based on Bureau of Labor Statistics figures. The first is that the average American spends 17 minutes per day on “sports, exercise, recreation.” And god knows what “recreation” encompasses.

The second is that the average American spends 19 minutes per day reading (probably romance novels–the most popular type of American literature).

Compare these figures with the whopping 2 hours and 49 minutes spent watching television.

Is it any wonder then, given the near total lack of exercise and the nutritional horror known as “the American diet,”  that the term “average American” has become synonymous with the term “land whale”?

And with education becoming ever more unaffordable, about half of Americans reading not even one book per year, and both leading brazen liars — sorry, “presidential candidates” —  pandering to the fears of “low information voters,” that Idiocracy is becoming fact several centuries before Mike Judge projected that it might?

We’re doomed.
